Bhuleshwar is a Hindu temple of Shiva, situated around 50 kilometres from
Pune and 10km from Pune Solapur highway from Yawat. The temple is situated on a hill and was built in the 13th century. Bhuleshwar temple is around 850 years old. The temple is fully constructed in rocks and you can see many classical carvings on the walls.It has been declared as a protected monument. Unlike other temples,once you enter through the main entrance the 1st thing you see is a wall. Then there is steps on either sides to go up n enter the heart of the temple where you will see a big nandi.
Temple was built during the period of 1230 AD during Yadava Rulers. It is believed that the temple was ruined by Muslim invaders and reconstructed later because the entrance of the temple is hidden like Gaimukhi Buruj construction of Shivaji’s time.
Main temple was constructed in 8th century while wall around temple was set up in 12th century. The wall of temple has been constructed, the proof of that, there is no direct outlet for holy water used for worship in Gabhra (sanctum sanctorum). It has to taken out form kund (small dug built up of stones for water storage) on the route of pradakshina.
DAULAT MANGAL FORT
There are two forts protecting fort purandar one is on south side called Shirwal Subhan Mangal and other on east side Malshiras daulat Mangal. When you look at daulat mangal fort from shree Bhuleshwar temple you can only see some broken buruj (watch towers) and तटबंदी (fortifications).
Broken walls of home in forest proves that there were lot of attacks on this area during time on Shivaji Maharaj due to which small town at the base of temple had to be shifted 3 km on south of temple.
How to Reach
By Road : Bhuleshwar is around 50 km from Pune on Pune-Solapur road. It will take around 1 hour to reach there from Pune. The भुलेश्वर मंदिर is around 10-15 min from Yavat village.
You can have small one day trip as “Theur Mandir – Bhuleshwar Mandir – Ramdara Mandir“. All three are the old temple and situated near by Pune-Solapur highway.
